How I Remember This Place
An autobiographical return to Levittown and Toa Baja, where present-day photographs coexist with memories of childhood. Becoming, Rupture, and Absence trace the relationship between the places that remain and what happened there.
Act I — Becoming
07 photographsI return to the schools, houses, and small details of childhood. These are photographs of the present, but I look at them through the person I was becoming here.
Act II — Rupture
07 photographsThe same geography holds change as well as familiarity. In this act, the present-day image and the memory of a place begin to pull in different directions.
Act III — Absence
06 photographsWhat remains in a photograph is not everything a place once held. The final act looks at the distance between what I can still see and what I carry in memory.
